What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of a Saudi Arabian princess? Well, the notoriously misogynistic nation is known for its suppressive laws and strict moral policing vis-à-vis women in the country. Yet, it is heartening to see that a lady from the royal family of Saudi Arabia is busy shattering these laws and notions with a brilliant take on fashion.
Meet Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, the wife of Prince Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. In a departure from the regular norms of the blue blooded Saudis, prince Nasser is known for his liberal and modern views. He is accompanied in the thought by his stylish wife, who was appointed as Vogue Arabia's launch editor-in-chief in July.
Deena’s sense of fashion and style echoes the taste of the western world. She also has her own fashion label D’NA. Although the brand is present only in Doha and Riyadh, it has managed to create ripples across the fashion arenas of the Middle East.
She was one of the first to back Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu , and was an early champion of London’s new guard, including Erdem, Roksanda, Mary Katrantzou and Osman, reported Business of Fashion.
While she lived in New York for a major part of her life, she is now settled in Riyadh with her husband. Sporting a short bob and carrying western seperates in the most aesthetic fashion, Deena transforms our perception of a Saudi Arabain princess.
