Consumption of marijuana immediately increases the testosterone levels
To make things clear, we are not telling you to go and smoke up. So don’t you dare blame us when you get caught by your mom and/or the police.
Although smoking marijuana is deemed illegal in most parts of the world, people argue that somehow, it does benefit your body too. We decided to get to the bottom of this claim and find out what exactly happens to your body and skin when you indulge in some “dam maaro dum”.
1. It increases testosterone levels and causes acne: Marijuana has a tongue-twisting element in it called tetrahydrocannabinol. Let's just call it THC. New York-based cosmetic surgeon Dr. Ariel Ostad, speaking to Huffington Post, asserted that consumption of marijuana in any form immediately increases the testosterone levels in your body. While this may be good for your male partner, an excess of this hormone in women will cause the skin’s oil glands to secrete extra sebum oil. This eventually leads to a breakout of acne and we are sure that it’s not something you will look forward to. (In case that has already happened, you can see the ways to fight it by clicking here.)
Marijuana can lead to both hair fall and hair loss
2. Hair growth and hair loss: The TCH in marijuana and the added level of testosterone can lead to the growth of hair on the body and loss of it on your head. Now that’s a double whammy, isn’t it?
Marijuana can stop your blood cells from the creating new collagen in your body
3. Makes you age faster: Smoking marijuana releases a series of carcinogens in your body’s system. These hydrocarbons can stop your blood cells from the creating new collagen in your body. In simpler words, once marijuana reaches your skin, it makes it age rapidly. “The smoke from pot can also worsen skin conditions like psoriasis and rosacea”, said Dr. Bobby Buka, a New York based dermatologist, in a report.
Marijuana is also linked to weight loss
4. Makes you slimmer: If you do have potheads as friends, you would agree that they have somehow reduced a massive amount of weight. Several researchers across the world have suggested that marijuana is directly linked to weight loss. Medically, it happens because marijuana helps in regulating the insulin production and manages caloric intake in a much better manner.
In conclusion, weed (or pot or whatever you like to call it) has both negative and positive effects on your looks. As a responsible media house, we urge you to stay away from smoking up, or at least don’t tell us if you do.
