About two years ago, I entered the world of fashion by interning with a luxury magazine in Delhi. I knew very little about how magazines worked and what fashion was. To me, it was what I had seen in movies. But well, it wasn’t like I expected it to be; it was much more.
After a few days, I got a chance to assist a shoot and I did as many goof-ups as you can imagine. I misread Louis Vuitton for Louboutin stilettos, taped the shoes wrongly, mixed up luxe designer clothes with each other and was even yelled at! To make matters worse, I was beyond embarrassed to enter the green room and see models change unabashedly after every shot.

But two months and a few shoots down, I had pretty much conquered how to pronounce French labels, source the latest clothes, and ‘air kiss.’ I knew all brands, their latest collections, the intricacies of fine jewellery, nude makeup and even got used to working nonchalantly in a room full of semi-naked models! Hah!

I loved being surrounded by clothes all the time and now I am obsessed with fashion. Like Parisians can spend hours staring at a painting and Dubliners can spend all day reading, I can spend all day surrounded by clothes, shiny, sparkly or printed. From the little black dress by Dior, flowy cocktail gowns by Valentino to louche T-shirts from Zara, I love them all. An admirer of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, my personal style is vintage and very feminine. I am my own muse and, like Mademoiselle Coco Chanel said, “Every day is a fashion show and the world is the runway.”
