Gauri Khan looks fabulous in this new ad campaign for Satya Paul's AW15 collection
We live in the golden period of fashion – most forgiving, most accepting and anything goes! (Imagine being born in Victorian England and having to squeeze yourself into those inhuman corsets! Or in China a hundred years ago where little girls had their feet bound so that they stayed small and twisted.) We are blessed indeed – no matter what our age or size, there are plenty of options to choose from these days. So show your gratitude by dressing for your body type and not being a fashion victim. Even if you are not in the bloom of youth any more, here are 10 ways to do it:
Size matters: Don't stuff yourself in clothes that are a size too small.
Colour code: Wear colours that work with your skin tone.
Woman power: Don’t be afraid to stand out, embrace your feminine side. Yes, you are blessed to be born a woman.
Focus: When you’re older, soft, sexy, classy should be your keywords.
Flaunt your assets: If your neck is your asset don't cover it up with a high neckline. If you have slim, toned arms go sleeveless. Nice legs should be shown but heavy thighs and cellulite should not.
Learn the tricks: Thin your face and double chin with long earrings and a slight pout for pictures.
Hand in hand: Short fingers and plump hands should avoid too much ornamentation. I personally feel leaving your arms and hands bare makes them look very slender. Another trick to make your arms and hands look slender is grow your nails and use dark nail polish, if you must. Talking about nails, chipped nails are a BIG no. Use transparent nail polish instead. Very class!
Hair and there: Another turn-off is patchy colouring in hair. I've personally stuck to henna as it merges better and doesn't need frequent touch-ups. Going grey is very chic too.
Makeup matters: Master makeup to suit your face. But blending is very important – merge your blusher, so that it does not look too stark (that reminds me of clowns). Kajal that spreads, bleeding lipstick… these are all avoidable faux pas. Opt for lip balm instead and go for a liquid liner if you frequently face these issues.
Self-love: Spend time looking at yourself. You are your biggest case study. Do some research. Remember, YOU are worth it.
