So you apply heavy moisturizers every night and still wake up in the morning with dry skin? Chances are there’s something wrong with your skincare regime. Fashion101.in lists out 5 essential points to combat excessive dryness.
Soaps: Antibacterial soaps do nothing but peel off the outer protective layer of the skin, and if your skin is dry, you could end up with very dry and flaky skin. Always look out for non-soap bars infused with ingredients such as ceramides or glycerine. For the face, oil-based cleansers work best. Wash your face every night with cool water; don’t do it too often.
Too much exfoliation:
Exfoliation helps remove dead cells, leaving the skin brighter. But if you have dry skin, limit the scrubbing to just once or twice a week. Better to go for homemade natural scrubs.
Try: Mash two ripe bananas, and add ground sugar. For hydration and moisture, add one tablespoon of honey. Gently massage on your face for five minutes, then wash it off with cool water.
Using the wrong toner:
Toners are meant to maintain the pH level of the skin. But are they good for those with dry skin? Yes, they are! Look for water-based toners with ingredients like rosewater or chamomile extracts, and vitamin B. They help lock moisture in the skin. Dry skin should strictly avoid using astringents or toners that have retinols, glycolics, or benzoyl peroxide in them as they will only squeeze out natural oils from the skin.
Not hydrating skin enough:
Moisturizing is an important step for every skin type. Dry skin needs that extra care to keep the skin hydrated. Instead of slathering on heavy moisturizers, apply botanical oils to banish dryness. They penetrate into the skin very quickly and give excellent results without clogging the pores
Bathing in hot steaming water is a sin for dry skin types! Switch to lukewarm water and apply body oil within a few minutes of taking a shower.
