Remember those depressing times when you see more than usual number of strands on your comb or hairbrush? Or the time when you are done with your bath to see your hair literally getting drained away? Hair loss is more common than you think and can happen due to a number of causes such as anxiety and stress, hormonal fluctuations, medication.
Bad eating habits with low levels of vitamin B1, B2, C, and iron also lead to hair loss – these nutritional deficiencies should not be neglected. Hair loss can also be a result of chemical treatments like colouring and rebonding, rough handling and excessive use of styling products. Here are 8 tips that will help you minimize and stop hair loss.
2. Eat protein-rich foods. Make eggs, lentils, green vegetables, fruits and yogurt or milk a part of your daily diet. Also, don’t forget to drink lots of water every day.
3. Wash hair regularly with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. Use baby shampoo as it is milder. After shampoo, use a conditioner to rehydrate and improve hair strength, but never use it on the scalp. (Are you washing your hair right? Find out here)
4.Go herbal! This may seem like a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it. Mix amla, reetha and shikakai together to form a paste. Apply it on your scalp and massage. Rinse after 30 minutes. Doing this three times a week for a month helps hair to regrow naturally. You can also try mixing one cup of amla juice with three tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply it to the scalp and wash it off with normal water after 30 minutes. (Click here to know about the surprising beauty benefits of amla)
5. Try a herbal shampoo replacement. Take 15-20 curry leaves, one lemon peel, three tablespoons shikakai powder, two tablespoons fenugreek seeds (methi) and two tablespoons of green gram seeds (sabut moong). Grind it all up and store the mixture. Use the mixture instead of shampoo or soap to wash your hair. (Find out more about the beauty benefits of curry leaves by clicking here)
6.Follow this nightly ritual. Mix two tablespoons of coconut oil and one tablespoon each of amla juice and lemon juice. Apply regularly on the hair overnight to stop a receding hairline.
8.Apply a power pack. Soak two to three tablespoons of methi seeds in water for 10 hours. Grind the soaked seeds to make a fine paste. Add two teaspoons of coconut milk. Apply the paste on your hair and scalp for 30 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Do this every week for thicker hair. (Here are 8 hair masks to for happy, healthy hair)
