You know it’s winter when you open up your suitcases scented with naphthalene balls and take out those heavy jackets in deep hues. Have you ever noticed that your winter wear is actually very dull? Marsala, deep blues, browns, black and grey dominate your closet in winters. But this season we have some prints for a gearshift. So this season let the canine check creep into your wardrobe, and succumb to this little patterned square called Houndstooth.
Nothing New, Just Rekindled
For those of you who don’t know about Houndstooth, let us tell you that this is not a new discovery. Also known as Dogstooth, it was first knitted in the Scottish Lowlands, using a simple warp anf weft weave. However, it was popularized on the runway by Dior in the 1930s. It has been rekindled among the pre-collections by many international designers like Mary Katrantzou, Acne and Versace off late. It came back during Autumn Winter 2015 and made us re-evaluate its meaning as just a fashion synonym.

Bigger Than Ever
A few years back, this print was small but now designers have blown them up in size and stretched it out onto skin-tight tops. Earlier, it was mainly associated with jackets, overcoats and the like. Cut to 2015, they are not only sensual but can also have an edgy and rock ‘n’roll vibe. The pattern is also roughed up to have a disheveled sophistication.
How to Wear if Like a Diva
The secret of styling this print lies in accessorizing. Pick something that’s bold, bright and a little bit quirky. You can pair earrings with Houndstooth shirts and short skirts for a young and peppy look. A solid coloured bag with a Houndstooth printed overcoat could be good as well. Make sure you balance it out well.
