Now you can bring the vibe of a disco in your wardrobe as well. This season, get over those monotonous outfits and add a bit of shine. We are not talking about single-toned metals like gold or silver but a VIBGYOR of shades. The iridescent trend – often referred to as Hologram trend– has been a rage on the international ramp the past season. Be it iridescent shoes, jackets, dresses or even shoes, every fashionista is now incorporating this trend in her wardrobe. Here’s how you can too.

What is the iridescent trend?

Iridescence is like blending a metallic effect with a rainbow, which results in an array of colours incorporated into the shiny surface of the fabric. Designers the world over love this textile trend and are combining it with other fabrics to create stunning outfits.

    Where was it seen?

Be it Fall or Spring-Summer, iridescent has been a recurring trend. Labels such as Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Blumarine and Vivenne Westwood showcased this trend time and again. We are still not over the Burberry Spring-Summer 2013 show where the show was concluded by all the models wearing stunning Burberry iridescent overcoats and carrying shiny handbags. For their Fall 2014 collection, Lanvin and Marc by Marc Jacobscreated bandeau dresses with iridescent overcoats.  For Spring-Summer 2015, London-based designers such as Markus Lupfer, Richard Nicoll, Mother of Pearl, and Emilio De La Morena have also experimented with this trend. Hollywood celebs such as Eva Mendes, Blake Lively and Katie Cassidy have been spotted experimenting with this trend very often.

    How to wear it?

Start easy. Incorporate iridescent clutches, ballerinas and handbags into your dailywear. Pair these accessories with your usual black and whites or solid colours. If you are an easy dresser then you can even start with a sleek belt or iridescent nail paints. With the onset of summers, there will be pool parties; why not try an iridescent dress or a top with denim shorts? The metallic tones pop put in the sun and will make you the centre of attraction. Iridescent sunglasses are also in trend, so sweep your hair back into a high pony topped with a glossy headband, and wear a pair of iridescent glares.
