Length does matter: While choosing a culotte, be careful. They are normally mid-calf length or can go up to your ankles. If you are short or have an hourglass figure, ankle-length culottes can be a blessing in disguise. Always remember to pair them with heels or wedges. They are broad and have a bit of flair at the bottom and give an impression of slim legs.
If you are petite, go for mid-calf length culottes, as they are short and wide and they tend to give an impression of a cute skirt. Wearing them with the right kind of footwear will give an edge and add height. Try wedges, pumps, peep-toes or T-straps.

Basic shades: If you haven’t tried culottes before, go for basic shades initially such as black, white, brown, beige, khaki or blue. They are the best to start with and will always give you a refined look. Wearing a monochromatic ensemble will definitely give a polished casual look but you can also try the classic black and white combination. If you have black culottes, go for a white blazer, a white tank top or a white jumper.
Pair black culottes with a creamy sleeveless blouse for the black and white look, or add a bold pattern on the blouse. Black, white or blues can work with a variety of coloured tops and you can be as creative as you want.

Coloured or printed? It is important to choose the colours and prints wisely. One of the basic rules is to go for single coloured culottes with single colour tops - they always work. When going for prints or patterns, never mix two different kinds in the same outfit. If you are confident enough, go for prints and bigger patterns this season.
Trying a range of shades is always great. So if you are going for a beach party, picnic or a garden party, go for mid-calf length culottes in bright colours paired with crop tops. Accessorizing is again very important when wearing culottes; a nice handbag or a pair of smart sunglasses will increase your style quotient.
