Sunday lunch is one ritual we all wait for the entire week. A time we spend with friends replaying the highlights of the week, gossiping and advising each other over freshly brewed coffee or some delicacies. And yet, we generally neglect dressing up for a casual lunch. It’s the weekend, so we try to keep it relaxed, comfy and easy. But then, let’s face it: unconscious wardrobe inventory is an involuntary reflex for all of us. We all take a glance and make an internal note of what our friends are wearing—whether it’s good or bad!
Yami Gautam in a floral maxi dress, Jabong; cardigan and hat picture taken from Pinterest; Floral print kimono sleeve jumpsuit @ Koovs.com, Rs 1695
Put together a billowy floral maxi dress or a jumpsuit with ballerinas, add a scarf and you are good to go. If it’s winter then you could add a blazer over the dress. Even a single colour cardigan may look nice. You could also switch to jeggings and a biker jacket as well. For a comfy-chic look you could go for baggy pants and a tailored- fitted shirt. A simple cardigan with jeans and scarf would also look good.
Sonam Kapoor from the movie Aisha; (top right) Z-collection cream belly shoes @ Jabong.com, Rs. 499; (below right) Cuff @ House of Blondie
Minimalist accessorises is rule one and you must follow it for Sunday lunch. A brooch, chunky necklace or a pair of funky shoes are a few fashionable picks. You could also go for oxford shoes to keep it simple and comfortable. Pearl necklaces or jewelled ones are too much in the morning. Avoid them! Don’t forget to carry your sunglasses. It’s winter time but the sun still shines bright in the morning. So if you end up sitting outdoors then shades are your saviours.
Kareena Kapoor carrying a black clutch; Accessorize clutch @ Myntra.com, Rs 1,945
Carry a small clutch bag as you don’t need many things over a brunch unless you have plans later. So a pretty nude-coloured clutch or small purse is all you need. It should be big enough for your wallet, cellphone, keys, sunglasses and lipgloss. Leave the huge bags for the office on weekdays.
