Being a mother is one thing, being an author-blogger-entrepreneur mother is another. And doing it all in style? That just makes our jaws drop.
A former journalist with India’s biggest newspapers, Kiran Manral quit full-time work to raise a son and went on to set up her own content supply firm. One of the leading mommy bloggers in India, she has a huge fan following on social media, where she talks about her trysts with parenting and shares her views on gender issues. She’s also on the planning board of the Kumaon Literary Festival and an advisor and mentor on several other platforms for women.
If that was not enough, she has also written four books, and is all set to launch her fifth one. While her earlier fiction was about youth and romance, her new one, ‘The Face at the Window’ (Amaryllis) is a gently nuanced, layered story that deals with the lack of identity and an eternal finding of self.
We asked Kiran to share her favourite looks from her recent public appearances. Scroll down for them all.
Look 1: “The theme for the reading of my book 'All Aboard' hosted by Gurgaon Moms was nautical so I took the closest I could find to nautical stripes: a simple dress with black and white horizontal stripes down the front and slimming black panels down the side. White and gold beads round the neck and golden slip-ons brought in some bling to the look.”

Look 2: “I decided to wear a sari to the Bangalore launch of ‘All Aboard’ in honour of the #100SareePact, which originated in this city. Also, I did have a dear sister-in-law around who would help me drape it (I am officially the world's worst sari-draper). This is a black crepe from Deepam with an orange and red border. I paired it with rubies in my ears and round my neck, and a red briefcase bag from Hidesign.”

Look 3: “This was at a reading for ‘Once Upon A Crush’ at SMAAASH in Mumbai. I paired a reptile-print silk top with khaki trousers and accessorised with a simple tawny beads in multiple chains.”
Kiran Manral in a Kashmiri Karma dress by Monica Dogra
Look 4: “I wore this very lovely Kashmiri Karma dress by Monica Dogra for Stylista for a blogger lunch during the ‘All Aboard’ promotions. It is a very pretty print and in earthy tones of olive and cream, with thigh-high slits on both sides, which I wore with brown tights for modesty. I paired this with a tribal oxidised neckpiece and a cream bag from Mango.”

Look 5: “This was to the launch of Tisca Chopra's ‘Acting Smart’. A simple thigh-length black top with some black sequins down the neck, tan trousers, tan and white wedges, with a golden neckpiece bought off the road at Hill Road. “
Kiran Manral in an embroidered tunic
Look 6: “A comfortable tunic in royal blue chiffon with embroidery down the yoke paired with jeans and very high heels. This was for an event I was emcee-ing at. I tend to prefer comfortwear if I'm going to be on my feet for a while, and this is my no-think, go-to look.”
