We have grown up watching Bollywood movies; we’ve copied many of their styles and repeated their dialogues. But today, when we look back, how many of those looks we copied were actually good? Were they actually worth inspiring? We guess not. Maybe that’s why these celebrities went through gigantic fashion makeovers. From Bengali cousins Rani Mukherjee and Kajol, to the Kapoor sisters and Parineeti Chopra, they’ve all gone through a complete wardrobe overhaul to change their looks.
Kajol: As we go back to Kajol’s initial years in cinema, she looked quite different and unfit for the industry. Movies like ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi’ bought her acting skills into the limelight and criticism for her looks and clothes – Undone eyebrows, messy hair and tomboy clothes. Later, she became our all-time favourite after ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ but there was no improvement in her style. Directors had to beg her to thread her eye brows! Criticism compelled her to work on her on-screen style with but things didn’t change off-screen. She made it to the worst dressed list many time at several events. A year back, she got a new stylist, Triparna Majumdar who turned out to be her fairy godmother. She finally turns our heads for the right reasons!
Rani Mukherjee: She made her debut in bollywood from the movie ‘Mehendi’ and we are sure you don’t want to Google and see how she looked back then. She grew as an actress, but her off-screen looks were quite scary. Movies like ‘Hadd Kardi Apne’ and ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ had her wearing wide legged printed pants along with contrasting weird T-shirts – she looked repulsive. Her short hair look didn’t work for her either. She was a fashion disaster on-screen and off-screen. But later, Sabyasachi entered into her life and transformed her from an average looking actress to a true Indian diva. Mrs Chopra now looks stunning and often appears in the list of best-dressed celebrities.
Parineeti Chopra: From a marketing professional to an actress, the journey was quite an interesting one for Parineeti. She made a mark in the industry from her first film ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ in which she seemed the perfect fit for the role. But later, her weight and style both gained her a lot of criticism. She wore garments that didn’t suit her. Few months back, she hired a new stylist and metamorphosed into a style diva. Every now and then, her posts on Twitter and Instagram flaunting her new outfits and preening in pictures makes it clear how much she is enjoying the new look. You go, girl!
Kareena Kapoor: Kareena’s acting and style has been quite dissatisfactory during her initial days. Her debut in the film ‘Refugee’ marked her entry into the Bollywood industry. In films like ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hu’ and ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ were she wore few contrasting and eye-itching colour combination dresses. She also experimented with her hair colour (blonde!) which was a disaster. And then her friendship with Manish Malhotra came as a surprise and was a major reason for her style transformation. Her present hair stylist, Pompy Hans, also worked in her favour and now she is a diva.
Karishma Kapoor: When you start your career as a teenager, you’re bound to make some serious fashion mistakes. That’s exactly what happened to Karishma Kapoor – bushy eyebrows, tacky frosted lip shades, unflattering clothes and silly hairdos became her trademark. She was clearly not at her best in her early years in films like ‘Prem Qaidi’ and ‘Dhanwan’. And then a fashion miracle happened to Lolo – Manish Malhotra. He took charge of her from ‘Raja Hindustani’ onwards and the ugly duckling finally grew up into a beautiful swan. The eyebrows were finally well-shaped, the hair was well-groomed and she wore clothes that actually suited her body. Today she is known as one of the original divas.
