Exfoliating skin is an integral step in skin care routine. Still most of us are clueless on how often we should be scrubbing our face as some dermatologists suggest twice a week, and others say daily exfoliation is the key.
The answer is it all depends on an individual. Proper exfoliation should make your skin glow and radiant. If you scrub every day and face no skin issues, then continue daily scrubbing. Keep it mild.
However, if after scrubbing you see your skin going red, flaky, bumpy or peeling off, then that means you're over-scrubbing your face and should limit your scrubbing to once a week.
Over-exfoliation breaks down healthy skin cells, which protect your skin’s natural barrier. It also squeezes out all the natural oil from the skin and dries it out. In some cases, it leads to hypersensitivity that can cause breakouts and large pores.
So, if you do exfoliate to the point of redness and flaking, stop it immediately and let your skin heal for at least 4-5 days. Stick to once a week only.
