It's been more than six months since Kareena Kapoor delivered baby Taimur and she is back in shape. She has her strict gym routine and healthy diet to thank for. She teamed up with her nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar to talk about the do's and dont's of pregnancy diet.
The 36-year-old mom revealed she faced hairfall issue post delivery. During a Facebook chat video, she said "I don't know if it's the change in weather or the fact that some vitamins are still being replenished, but I did experience tremendous hairfall."
According to Rujuta, to combat hairfall, eat coconut in every form. It helps to cut hairloss and slows down the greying process. Kareena's favourite is coconut chutney with tamarind and a little ghee for breakfast.
Black sesame seeds are also an excellent source for promoting hair growth, though these need to be cooked. "Add it to your dal or your vegetable dishes," recommends Rujuta. Eating chaklis packed with chickpea flour helps reduce hairfall.
To overcome morning sickness, Kareena had lemon water with black salt and buttermilk with asafetida. Also, take kesar paani and banana in the morning. Have local food and a lot of seasonal fruits such as blackberry, strawberry, cherry, mango, etc.

During pregnancy, Kareena only had seasonal and locally available food like idli with cocunut chutney, til ke laddoo, chakli, daal chawal, makhane, pulses, khichdi, dates, nutmeg milk shake and turmeric latte.

Kareena also had lots of ghee during pregnancy. She said, “We always included everything that I liked in my diet. I used to have a lot of ghee (clarified butter). In fact, Taimur is going to start having ghee. He’ll start from a young age. Seven-eight months is a good time to start.”

Kareena started working out about 50 days after her delivery. She says gyming is not just about losing calories, it’s about feeling good. “I love the idea of going to the gym. I go with my friends, it’s good to have that time.” Even during pregancy she was active. “Indians treat pregnant ladies like – ‘bhaith jao’, ‘so jao’, ‘have foot massages’, have food on your bed. But I was never like that. I always wanted to be out and about all the time. I loved shooting and working during it. I wanted it that way. And perhaps after it, to exercise was much easier,” Kareena said.

Have a big breakfast: “I am a breakfast person. I need food the moment I wake up. My brains don’t work, otherwise. So pre-workout, I have a good breakfast like poha, eggs and toast or ajwain paratha. Post workout is always lunch – dahi rice. Something fulfulling," said Kareena.
